Tim Tips for selecting photos for your wedding album.

I get a lot of request on how to pick the photos for the wedding album so I thought I would share some helpful tips that might make the process easier.

You probably have received a cd or flash drive of hundreds of photos and I’m sure it seems overwhelming on going thru them all but if you break it down into the different parts of the wedding and tell the story of your day it will be very easy.

Even though every wedding is unique there are usually 7 parts to the wedding and the photography .

Getting Ready. Bridal Party, Ceremony, Family photos, Bride and Groom photos. Details and Reception.

You want to select photos from each of the categories that tells your wedding story.

Start with the getting ready maybe choose a photo of the dress hanging up and some detail shots of the shoes and jewelry and photos of the bridesmaids helping with the dress.

Here is sample page spread of that.

Another option for the start of the album could be the sign of the venue or a photo of it. This works well if both the ceremony and reception are located at the same location.

I always organize the photos into different folders with those categories to help you navigate thru them.

When we design the album we usually use 1-3 photos on a page(one page is a side) where the left side flows into the right side to create a cohesive spread. In a 30 page album we usually use 50-60 images. Adding to many photos on a page will be distracting and will lose the impact of the story. We typically design albums from 30-60 pages or sides. There are 15 spreads in a 30 page(side) album. We don’t charge extra for images only additional pages. We want you to choose all the photos you like but the more images you select the more pages will have to be added.

Here is another example of typical page spread in an album.

I have my clients go to the online web gallery of their wedding photos and star the favorites for their album. Once they have made the selections they will notify me and I will be able to download the photos and create a beautiful album for them. When I have designed the album I will a send a link for them to view online and make any revisions they like. I want them to have a perfect album that they will treasure for a lifetime.

Hope these tips have helped!

We also design albums for bride and grooms who have the digital files but their photographer does not make albums. Email the studio for more info tim@timotto.com

Founders Chapel Wedding-Prado Reception-Ruth and Josh Wedding

Ruth and Josh had their wedding ceremony at the beautiful Founders Chapel at USD. The campus has beautiful areas to create photographs and we were able to take our time and explore the grounds for the photography. We headed over to Balboa Park to work with the bridal party and more photos of the bride and groom. The wedding reception was in the Prado ballroom and had stunning decor and up lighting. We really enjoyed working with Ruth and Josh and look forward to creating a beautiful wedding album for them. Park Hyatt Aviara Wedding- Alexa and Michael

This was such an amazing wedding!  Alexa and Michael had their ceremony in the Palm Courtyard  at the Park Hyatt Aviara. The Huppah was covered entirely with flowers created by Blush Botanicals. This was such a beautiful ceremony set up, one of my all time favorites in photographing San Diego weddings. Alexa and Michael were so fun and easy going to work with. We really enjoyed photographing these two. We did a ton of family portraits. Even though their were lots of different family groupings it went really smooth and everyone was enjoying themselves. The reception was held in the Grand Ballroom and they had an artist inside painting Alexa and Michael’s first dance. The band was West Cost Music and JB Project They were outstanding and kept everyone on the dance floor the entire night. We had so many talented vendors at this wedding that made it a successful event: Event Planner- Samantha Scott Events. Florist-Blush Botanicals.
